Project Samples:
Calusa Bank, Punta Gorda, Florida

THE NEW BRANCH BANK AND EXECUTIVE OFFICES for
CAUSA National Bank in Punta Golda, Florida is
the second unique designed prepared by David
Michael Davenport AIA PA for this regional bank
corporation. This composite aesthetic, 13,000
square foot, two story facility is configured
with the branch banking functions located on the
first level, with the executive offices and
operations staff spaces placed on the upper
level surrounding a glass railed atrium space.
The building is set diagonally on a corner site
facing the intersection of Tamiami Trail and
Aqui Esta; a three and a half story tower facing
this intersection provides a landmark entry
point for building users and a visual reference
for bypasses on the adjacent arterial Tamiami
Trail. The second level of the tower provides a
covered exterior relaxation space for the bank’s
top management and clients. The second level of
the short leg of the “L” shaped building plan
spans over a three lane drive through including
an ATM, night depository and commercial drawer,
along with consumer service kiosks.
All occupied spaces including offices and
conference rooms, along with the break room and
interior stairs are day lit with a minimum
twenty five square feet of green tinted
laminated glazing in deep green colored
storefront framing; the interior exposures of
all habitable spaces adjacent to the atrium are
glazing floor to ceiling to provide shared day
lighting at the atrium space and walkways on
both levels. While the fifteen foot wide by
sixty eight foot long atrium is defined
primarily by the puncture of the second level
floor deck and perimeter glass railing, a high
coffered second level ceiling reflecting the
shape of the floor penetration, reinforces the
atrium edges and defines the spatial boundaries
of the second level walkway.
The composite aesthetic combines abstracted
traditional building elements with the dynamics
of a modern, open plan building geometry. High
sloped metal roofs accentuate exterior features,
while the main of the building volume is roof
with a high reflectance, low slope PVC roof
membrane. This project features concrete and
masonry walls and structural steel second floor
framing and light gauge steel floor deck; the
roof structure is composed of structural steel
and open web steel joist roof framing with light
gauge steel deck. The building walls and roofs
are fully insulated at the exterior perimeter;
all spaces, including unused attic area, are a
part of the insulated envelope.
